I've just been trawling the BCU and SCA websites to update myself with current proceedings!! (probably a good idea for work as well…Wink)

I would suggest that, instead of me giving huge screeds of info on the forum, people go and check out the pages on http://www.canoescotland.com. Especially those under 'coaching' and 'clubs'.

A lot of this info is really hard to digest and even once you have digested, very difficult to put in place accurately. I'm reading up so i can maybe help others with the process, so if on doubt, gimme a shout.

Some amusement also in the funding page, in that A&B council are one of the few absent from the easy to access list of council funding sources ConfusedLaugh

sorry it's a dry post today, got the business head on.. more crap chat later…

oh, maths…

Hi Scrutts, Thanks for the update. Would it be an idea to speak to another club(s)?

Try again! Last attempt at this post didn't work if that's an important detail..?

Could be a good idea Pam, I also know a few people who work more directly with SCA as well, I'll try and chat to them too..

One of the more interesting coaching points though is that everyone has to be 'generic' to start with, both in star tests and coaching quals.

Roll out the open boats Laugh It will be an important and fun diversion for all kayakers. They say all modern kayak strokes are derived from open boating.. So it should be a cinch..Wink

Oh crap, double figures maths.. Fingers and toes..

A good page for lists of summary BCU training docs (albeit 2 year old, is that now out of date?) available at this page.

Hi Pam & Scrutts

Further to our last posting in respect of the AGM meeting, you will note that we met members of the Glasgow Kayak Club when doing the First Aid course on 27/28 Feb, so maybe that club could be worth a call?

All good.  They are the correct star tests.  I think.  Things move slowly in SCA/BCU world so 2007 feels like yesterday…

P.S. what exactly is 'spamming' and why do we need an 'anti spam' device on the forum..  If it's important should we put it back and I'll just have to stick some extra toes on..? Laugh

Scrutts,

anti spam measures are there to ensure that there is not some automated computer generating lots of ads for eg. viagra all over internet forums. In our case, posting is closed to the public 'guests' (who can only read posts) and is only open to pre-approved members who hopefully won't feel the need to fill the board up with viagra ads etc!Smile

Yo!
Just wanted to post a quick 'well done' to all involved friday night. In my opinion, and listening to comments afterwards, a very effective and productive session was had by all. Loadsalearning! A big thanks to those who pulled on 'coach' hats.. I hope they learned as much as their 'pupils'! I'm not sure where that leaves self-coaching Stuart tho'… :)

I like Alans idea.

When I was playing polo alot we used to do it on rivers. Sort of 'downriver-4x-come-extreme-racing',  much carnage but very fun!!  Makes the current Etive River Race (see youtube) look a little less extreme…

I'm not sure I should be posting this under 'coaching'…

Heard about an exercise where you tie a rope each end of kayak and pull the length of the pool to simulate effect of current on roll. Maybe Pam has experienced this ? Sounds like fun better than Davy jumping on the end of your boat Laugh

I have tried this rope technique once at Garnock CC pool session, it was very good. You had to do extreme bracing and after capsize had to roll on the side opposite  to the flow. I managed to roll once, but the rope pullers were on a mission to capsize me! Very good fun, difficult to do on our pool boats since you need to have somewhere to hook the rope to. We should try it one night using someones playboat though!

Consider it 'put to' Smile

It is a good way of simulating moving water, and works pretty well with playboats, but the Dunoon pool is pretty wide, it may have to be an endurance haul!! See how many times you can roll in the length (or width of a pool).. It could be a race, see who can keep the greatest speed (ie upright).. the possibilities, i fear, may be endless.

could be a very good last week!! the video/photo opportunities…. LaughCry

Hope there's been some contact with Kris/ Colin/ Anders, cos I'm not going to make it tonight..

I did however make it to Dave Matthews at the SECC last night. I still can't hear too well…Cool

Sweet…

(I like these smiley things too. is it possible to get addicted? Frown)

Glad you had a good night you must be older than you look Smile and aye the smileys get addictive Surprised anyway think the last night in pool should just be fun the more embarrasing the better just to prepare everyone for real life on the river ! My God always takes the piss out of me just when I think I've got something nailed ! Like tonight rolling just fine even rolled with the plank of wood ie inuit paddle aye plank ! Then Kris arrived failed miserablyCry

As usual Mousey spotted my problem straight away I'm a tube !!!!

Seriously I think the club is really doing well we even learn when theres no coaches about lol
